Simpson Closed for the Summer

Posted by admin | 5 December 2011

The Simpson Desert has always been a great place for the 4WD Enthusiast.  Pity that it will be closed for 4 months but it is all in the interest of safety which is so important for everyone concerned.  Time to start planning alternate holiday destinations and if you need improvement to your 4WD we could have what you are looking for

Yesterday at 6pm, the Department of Environment and National Resources, closed the Simpson Desert to all 4WDs and touring vehicles.

Both the Simpson and the Regional Reserve in South Australia have been closed until March 15th.

We all know the heat in the Simpson can be bad at the best of times, but during the summer, many can leave themselves open to serious problems with temperatures sitting around the mid-40s.

District ranger Tony Magor said “Temperatures in the Simpson Desert during summer are extreme, with daytime temperatures between 40°C and 50°C being common”.
